שאמאנים-רופאים קדומים: שורשי הרפואה בסין העתיקה
על סמך ממצאים היסטוריים וארכיאולוגיים, ניתן לומר כי הסימנים הראשונים ל-״רפואה״ נראו כבר בשלבים המוקדמים של התפתחות האנושות.
את נקודת ההתחלה של הרפואה הסינית ניתן לתארך לתקופה הפרהיסטורית (上古 - העת העתיקה המרוחקת), כאשר בני ובנות האדם הקדומים סבלו ממחלות אך לא ידעו מהי רפואה או מה הן תרופות.
כל שיכלו לעשות על מנת לשמור על בריאותם, למנוע ולרפא מחלות היה להתבונן ולתעד את הקשרים שבין המקצבים הנפוצים של הגוף האנושי לטבע סביבם. כך, תוך כדי צבירת ניסיון חיים בקהילותיהם ושימור הנחיות שניתנו על ידי ״החכמים הקדומים״, התפתחה הרפואה בהדרגה בעידנים מוקדמים אלו.
בתקופה זו, ריפוי היה קשור לרוב לפרקטיקות רוחניות ושאמאניות.
ה- Wū Yī (巫醫) היו דמויות אגדיות ששילבו ידע וטכניקות שאמאניות עם פרקטיקות ריפוי מוקדמות.
הם נחשבו לבעלי יכולות מיוחדות, כולל קשר עם עולמות אחרים ויכולת השפעה על בריאות וחולי.
